KARELIAN HERITAGE & CULTURE

Day of Experiences: Karelian and Orthodox culture and traditions, art and handicrafts, Karelian food and a local winery.

The day will start on a visit to an Art Exhibition of Taidetalo in Tuupovaara. A guided tour in a cosy museum which collection is collected by Anna-Maija Lankinen. Coffee and Karelian Pie.

Lunch will be served in Ilomantsi in a Karelian restaurant, which represents Karelia wooden architecture. Runonlaulajan pirtti, the Bard´s House, is a modernised Karelian House with a permanent Kalevala exhibition. Traditional music played by kantele, the Finnish folk music instrument. The area also includes an Orthodox prayer hut and a small shop of handicrafts.

The last place to visit in Ilomantsi is PeltoHermanni´s Wine Tower. Multi-vision presentation on wineculture, wine making and wine sampling of berry wines.

14.00 Transfer to PeltoHermanni’s Wine Tower

15.00 Transfer to Joensuu
