Call for applications for
Small-scale Research Project in Advanced Learning Technologies
in conjunction with ICALT 2004

IEEE TCLT invites applications for a Small-scale Research Project in Advanced Learning Technologies. The focus is on research projects that are short-term, yet adopt ‘stepping outside the box’ approach. The maximum of US$ 3000 is available. The successful project will be announced, along with a certificate, during ICALT 2004 conference.
- The applicants should be attending ICALT 2004, where the successful project will be announced.
- The project should be maximum 6 months duration, commencing in October 2004.
- The successful applicant is required to submit quarterly progress reports (500 words each).
- The final report should be submitted at the latest by 30 April 2005 in the form of a 1000 words article to be published in Learning Technology newsletter (published by IEEE TCLT). The report should be written as per the requirements of the newsletter.
- TCLT will strongly encourage the project research to be submitted to any internationally reputed refereed journal, with acknowledgement to TCLT funding.
- The intellectual property remains with the researcher(s).
Application must include the following (please use the numbering and headings as listed below):
- Project Title (maximum 80 characters but informative)
- Project Leader & Project Participants (name, designation and affiliation)
- Project Summary (up to 300 words, understandable for a general audience)
- Expected Benefits for user community
- Background (250 words describing in plain English the state of knowledge in the project area, should be understandable to non-experts in the area)
- Overall Aim of the research (again 250 words describing research goals & objectives, should also describe whether the work is embedded in a long-term research activity, should be understandable to non-experts in the area)
- Detailed Research Proposal (up to 1000 words describing the research problems, their background, the chosen approach to solve these problems, the expected results; the description should contain references to literature as appropriate)
- References (as used in Sections 5-7)
- Strength of the Research Team and ability to deliver (no more than 250 words). Include as an appendix briefCVs of key team members (each at most 1000 words emphasizing the most recent research achievements/publications)
- Budget (incl. justification and budget priorities) [the payments will be made directly by IEEE in the form of reimbursements, on the actual receipts and/or invoice]
- Timeline of the project milestones.
- Two external references (outside of applicant's organisation) [to be sent directly to TCLT chair by email].
